I am decorating for Xmas. Won't my bushes die if I have twinkling lights in and around them?

I had an accident with one of my bushes last year. Somehow the wiring shorted and electrocuted the bush. Fortunately I was able to get it to the emergency room in time and it survived with no ill effects other than now if I try to put lights on it, the poor thing cringes in the corner.
