How loud is it living near train tracks?

We have found a house we really like, but it is a couple of blocks away from a UP main line with houses in between. There is no schedule for the freight, and Amtrak also uses the tracks, but I'm not sure how often it runs. It's right near an intersection, so the trains will have to sound the horn. How loud is this going to be? I realize we would likely get used to it, but will we curse ourselves every time a train goes by and have to wait for it to p to finish our conversation?
