How can i play my ipod thru my car stereo without an fm transmitter and without having to install a system?

i just want to play my ipod in my car without buying an expensive system and without using a crappy FM transmitter that doesnt even work. I heard the cette adapter thing has good sound but doesnt work for very long, so i dont want to use that either. anybody know of anything long lasting and good sound quality???
