If you were going 2-7 miles over the speed limit, you were still over the speed limit...hence you were speeding. Tell the judge you will plead guilty to doing 7 mph over the limit, or you want a trial. He'll take the money he can get from that fine, rather than waste more money to get a couple bucks more. Also, if you go to traffic court, the officer who wrote the ticket must be there so you can face your accuser. If he doesn't show, you can easily get out of it.
